The state of Black maternal health in the United States is an urgent concern that demands our attention and action. Black women historically have experienced higher rates of pregnancy complications such as hypertension, preeclampsia, and hemorrhage. The disparities and injustices faced by Black mothers during pregnancy and childbirth are deeply rooted in systemic issues, and it is our responsibility as dedicated legislators to address these disparities head-on.
The Black Maternal Health Equity Caucus Network will facilitate the creation of a Black Maternal Health Equity Caucus in targeted states and will serve as a platform for collaboration, information sharing, and strategic planning to advance legislative solutions that positively impact Black maternal health outcomes.
Objectives
- Promote Awareness and Understanding of Black Maternal Health Disparities
- Facilitate Collaboration Among State Legislators to Develop Legislative Priorities
- Encourage the Establishment of a Black Maternal Health Equity Caucus in targeted state legislatures
